Microsoft and Google are blocking meeting bots in 2026

Starting mid-2026, Microsoft Teams will detect and flag third-party bots that join meetings. Meeting organizers will see bots listed under “Suspected threats” in the lobby, and admins can block them entirely with tenant-wide policies. Google Meet has also started flagging third-party AI notetaker bots as a security risk.

Bot-based tools like TeamsMaestro, Fireflies, Otter.ai, Gong, and Fathom will be directly affected. CallScrib uses Microsoft's Graph API on Teams and local audio capture via the Desktop Agent on other platforms — no bot ever joins — so it works seamlessly with these new policies.

Detailed comparisons

CallScrib vs TeamsMaestro

TeamsMaestro is the most-installed AI notetaker on AppSource — but it uses a bot that joins as a visible participant, costs $17–20/user/mo, and can’t cover phone calls. CallScrib is invisible, $5/user, and covers meetings + PSTN. Read full comparison →

CallScrib vs Microsoft Copilot

Copilot is $18–30/user/mo on top of your M365 license. For just meeting notes, CallScrib delivers the same outcome at $5/user with no base-tier dependency. Plus Teams Phone coverage and a Desktop Agent for Zoom/Meet. Read full comparison →

CallScrib vs Gong

Gong is $100k+/year, requires weeks to deploy, and uses a bot vulnerable to 2026 bot policies. If you need notes (not revenue intelligence), CallScrib is the right fit at 5% of the cost. Read full comparison →

CallScrib vs Fireflies.ai

Fireflies sends a bot named Fred to your meetings, caps AI features behind credit pools, and doesn’t cover Teams Phone. CallScrib is $5/user, no bot, no AI credits, summary in Teams chat. Read full comparison →

CallScrib vs Otter.ai

Otter recently cut Pro plan minutes from 6,000 to 1,200/mo. OtterPilot’s bot is getting flagged by Google Meet and will be affected by Microsoft’s 2026 policies. CallScrib has no caps and no bot. Read full comparison →

CallScrib vs Fathom

Fathom is excellent on Zoom. But its free tier caps AI summaries at 5/month, paid tiers start at $15/user, and its Teams experience is "supported" not native. CallScrib is built for Teams from day one. Read full comparison →
